For the tenth day of our program, we had an exciting Challenge Day! On Challenge Day, we let the kids take over the boat from morning until night. They were in charge of sailing the boat, as well as managing the chores and daily schedule, while the counselors took a step back and let them lead.
We woke up in Anegada and dropped the mooring ball, beginning our five-hour sail to Sandy Cay. The sail was entirely downwind, making for a beautiful day on the water. The kids were responsible for the jibes and steering, running the boat almost entirely on their own. It was awesome to watch them put all of the sailing skills they have learned throughout the trip into practice.
We had lunch underway, consisting of mac and cheese and hot dogs, prepared by Matteo and Kate. Cooking while underway is never easy, but they did a great job feeding the crew. The lack of assistance from the counselors was definitely a challenge, but our skipper, Maria, did a fantastic job adjusting to the extra responsibility. She led the team with confidence and kept everyone working together throughout the day.
When we arrived at Sandy Cay, we enjoyed a refreshing swim, and some of the kids even went snorkeling to explore the crystal-clear water. After spending some time cooling off, we sailed over to Sidney’s and got ready for the Soda Social.
At Sidney’s, we enjoyed an amazing buffet-style dinner with plenty of delicious food before everyone made their way to the dance floor. The dance party was full of energy, laughter, and great music, making it the perfect way to celebrate a successful Challenge Day. We ended the night with chill vibes, lots of smiles, and excitement for another adventure tomorrow.
