EARLIES Days 13&14
Written by Franny P., Social Media Coordinator
Yesterday, on Day 13, every captain in the fleet woke up at a whopping 5:00 a.m. for a sneaky and peaceful motor to The Baths. We like to beat the crowds, so we were up before sunrise. Campers who wanted to sleep stayed tucked in, while those who were ready for the day helped us make our calm journey to the island.
We caught the mooring balls around 6:30 a.m. and started breakfast. After a quick bite, we left the mess on the boats, geared up, and hopped in the water for a morning snorkel. It was absolutely beautiful, and we swam around to the entrance of The Baths. All 86 of us were in awe of the beauty as we slowly made our way, one by one, through the layered rock formations.
Afterward, we swam back to the boats and motored to Salt Island. We had plenty of time to swim, snorkel, and enjoy watersports. The Colgate sailors went out as well, and it was time for everyone to take their ASA test. I am sure they all did great. I know everyone learned so much throughout the trip.
During this peaceful afternoon, we admired the goats on the mountains, took naps, cleaned, packed, and somehow, it was already time to head back to Hodges. It felt like we were just there.
Around 3:30 p.m., we all did a deep, deep clean of the boats and then gathered for dinner. The students performed skits, we watched the slideshow, presented awards, and said our goodbyes. It was an amazing two weeks with all these students and their unique personalities.
The next morning, we were up again at 5:00 a.m. Everyone had breakfast, finished packing, and by 6:30, we said our final round of goodbyes. It was such a tender moment. You could truly feel how close and comfortable everyone had become.
Thanks to everyone for a great start to the summer. We hope to see all of your smiling faces again next year!
