Delta 1 Day 8: Night Snorkel Around Marina Cay

This morning, we woke up at Yost Van Dyke’s Great Harbor just before diving into breakfast and pre-departure checks so we could be off our ball by 8:30a.m. and en route to Trellis Bay on Beef Island. We had a beautiful sail around the north side of Tortola before heading east between Tortola and Guana Island and finally to Beef. The wind was blowing and the sun was shining making for the perfect conditions to review some basic keelboat material for our ASA students on the sail over. We reviewed aids to navigation and what different buoys signaled which proved to be very convenient as we had to navigate past a cardinal marker on our way into Trellis bay!

Once we arrived, we made a delicious lunch of Greek pitas and started shuttling to shore to begin our truck tours of the island. We rode around Beef Island in the back of Sail Caribbean’s pickup taking in the beautiful views with a brief stop for some ice cream once reaching the top of the island. After our truck tours, we had a bit of time to walk around Aragorn’s Local Art studio and the Trellis market to purchase some t-shirts and treats before heading back to boats.

We dropped the ball and motored across the small channel over to Marina Cay. We relaxed on the boats, swam around, floated in floaties, listened to music and showered before all sitting down for a Jerk chicken and roasted potatoes dinner.

After a swift dinner clean, we were all back in the water for a night snorkel around Marina Cay. Although we saw tons of incredible sea life and had the chance to experience what felt like an entirely new world, we also were very ready to bundle up and sip on some hot chocolate by the time we were back on boats. With pj’s on and mugs in hand, we sat down for our boat meeting before crawling into our bunks and hammocks and then drifting off into a deep and much needed sleep.
