Testimonials for our Teen Adventure Camps
What parents and students say about Sail Caribbean teen adventure camps
"…it's an experience that will change you for ever. You will meet some of the coolest people in the world and experience things that people only dream of. If you are looking for a fun summer you don't need to look any further."
Elyana Kadish, age 14, Croton on Hudson, NY
"Jake loved the sailing but he particularly loved the sense of responsibility. It was really hard work, but he never seemed to mind. It is hard to give kids this age such independence…you did it with just the right amount of oversight."
Susan Grant, parent of 13 yr old son, Greenville, DE
"The Sail Caribbean staff is the best, hands down. Very responsible and safety oriented, enthusiastic, fun, charismatic, energetic, obviously enjoy teaching and being with teenagers. I cannot commend them enough. I think they are some of the coolest people I have gotten to spend time with."
Hannah Korus, age 18, Elkins Park, PA
"Knowing that the program had a great reputation was a huge selling point for us. The fact that there was so much more to the program (the emphasis on team work, responsibility and independence as well as an opportunity to meet people from all over the world) was a fantastic bonus!"
Suzanne Johnson, parent of 14 yr old daughter, St. Louis, MO
"You meet so many new people and within a few days everyone is like family. Just be warned that it is incredibly hard saying goodbye to everyone…"
Jessie Mathews, age 17, Lincolnville, ME
"James was awestruck and deeply moved by the beauty of the sea and sky by night. He talks about it a lot. He is also very proud of getting his rescue certification. Another thing he is personally proud of is being calm and level headed when challenged. That's a good life experience."
Liz McMillan, parent of 13 yr old son, East Hampton, NY
"I care much more about the environment. I am definitely going to further my community service with fish, reef, and sand studies."
Elana Folbe, age 15, Huntington Woods, MI
"My favorite activities would be doing all of the water sports at the Bitter End Yacht Club and seeing The Baths! I especially liked being in one of the smaller boats and getting the chance to steer differently. It was much simpler to understand and I had no idea the little boats could be so much fun! The Baths were great too! I loved going exploring in the rocks and then jumping off of one of them at the end. But it really was enough for me to just get the chance to sleep at night with the stars and wake up in the morning to the sun every day!"
Liu Thomas, age 18, Carmel, IN
"I can see a real change in my daughter since her return. Her confidence is high, her concern for the environment has grown, and her independence seems to have grown as well. She seems more mature and has certainly been very thoughtful and reflective since her return. She tells us that she has "alot to process" about what she learned on her adventure."
Laurie Helms, parent of 17 yr old daughter, Charlotte, NC
"My greatest accomplishment was making new friends. Also it's not just a typical friend, these are people that I lived with and bonded with for three weeks, and will be close with for years to come."
Toby Zitsman, age 18, New Rochelle, NY
"Being Captain of the Day is a very cool feeling. Knowing that you now have the responsibility of sailing a fifty foot boat is very hard, but also a lot of fun. I never felt afraid at the helm because my captain and mate were always there to help if I needed. It is a really great opportunity to experience leadership and teamwork with your fellow crew. Because the one thing that you never forget is that running a boat isn't a one person job and without everyone's help it just won’t work."
Elyana Kadish, age 14, Croton on Hudson, NY
"You kept the energy positive and productive - there is no substitute for hands-on, experiential learning - the team work aspect provided learning opportunities for working AND living together in close quarters! The whole thing was well-run, well-coordinated and your responsiveness to a parent's many phone calls was greatly appreciated!"
Carol Rao, parent of 15 yr old daughter, Chapel Hill, NC
"The course work was fun and interesting, especially working with the researchers…The emphasis on academics was good and well proportioned. I had never dissected a shark. Way cool. Learned how to fry a fish. Dove to my deepest depth yet. Everything new and old was awesome."
Taylor Witkin, age 17, Sudbury, MA
